APE 2009
Yes, I know this was a while ago, but you know what? I'm a bit behind...
-I went to APE (Alternative Press Expo) in San Francisco this October. It was pretty sweet. Sold some comics and met some great artists, writers, retailers, and publishers.
-Selling at your first comicon is a bit harrowing because it's such a steep learning curve. But that's also the great part. I'll definitely go into my next comicon a little savvier.
-...Much savvier than last year. Last year I went to check it out for the first time, but didn't sell. I came up from LA with a backpack of drawings, some money, and a light jacket. It was cold and VERY rainy. As I tried to get back to my buddy's place some of my drawings got soaked. I freaked out. The next day when Jeffrey Brown signed his new book for me, I was convinced he had seen me make an ass out of myself in the rain, given the drawing the signed it with (drip drip). I think I read too much into things.
- Back to APE 2009: The one sad thing that I noticed is that there were less vendors than last year. Goddamm recession. Hopefully things will pick up a bit next year, but it was still a great experience.
-Noticed how popular giant squids, zombies, pirates, dinos, and unicorns are. Ok, well I already knew it, but I guess I didn't know that they were THAT popular.
